Accessibility Statement

Last updated 12 January 2026 · Effective 12 January 2026 · CookingVerse Labs, Inc.

Showcase document. CookingVerse is a fictional product built to demonstrate design and engineering work. This document is a realistic template, not a binding agreement, and it is not legal advice. Replace it with counsel-reviewed text before using it for a real service.

Cooking is one of the places where hands-free, eyes-free interaction is not a nicety. We build for that, and we would rather publish our known gaps than claim a clean sheet.

We aim to meet WCAG 2.2 Level AA across the website and apps.

Conformance status

Partially conformant with WCAG 2.2 AA — most of the product conforms; the exceptions below do not yet. Last audited December 2025 by an independent third party using assistive technology, including NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver and TalkBack.

What we have built

  • Full keyboard operation with a visible focus ring and a skip-to-content link.
  • Semantic landmarks, headings and ARIA only where native semantics fall short.
  • Text contrast of at least 4.5:1, and 3:1 for large text and UI boundaries.
  • Complete voice control of guided cooking — no screen interaction required to cook a recipe.
  • prefers-reduced-motion honoured; all decorative animation stops.
  • Layout reflows to 320 px and survives 200% zoom without loss of content or function.
  • Text alternatives for meaningful imagery; decorative art is hidden from assistive technology.
  • Timers announce through the screen reader and are never the only signal for a step change.

Known gaps

IssueImpactTarget
Some community recipe photos lack author-supplied alt textScreen-reader users miss visual detailQ2 2026 — alt text now required on upload
Appliance timeline uses a drag interaction without a full keyboard equivalentKeyboard-only users cannot reorder stepsQ2 2026
Two legacy onboarding videos have no audio descriptionBlind users miss on-screen-only contentQ3 2026
Voice recognition accuracy is measurably lower for some atypical speech patternsReduced hands-free reliabilityOngoing — expanded training set

Compatibility

Tested against the current and previous major versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari, with NVDA and JAWS on Windows, VoiceOver on macOS and iOS, and TalkBack on Android. The site degrades gracefully without JavaScript: every section remains readable and every link works.
