Terms of Service
Showcase document. CookingVerse is a fictional product built to demonstrate design and engineering work. This document is a realistic template, not a binding agreement, and it is not legal advice. Replace it with counsel-reviewed text before using it for a real service.
These Terms govern your use of the CookingVerse apps, website and APIs (the “Service”). By creating an account or using the Service you agree to them. If you are agreeing on behalf of an organisation, you confirm you have authority to bind it.
Please read section 7 (Kitchen safety) carefully. The Service controls heat-producing appliances and gives food-preparation guidance; it does not replace your own judgement.
1. What the Service does
CookingVerse plans meals, compiles grocery baskets, provides step-by-step cooking guidance (including by voice) and, where you connect compatible devices, issues control commands to kitchen appliances. Features vary by plan, region, device and partner availability.
We iterate constantly. We may add, change or remove features. If we remove something material from a paid plan we will give you 30 days’ notice and a pro-rata refund if you choose to leave.
2. Your account
You must be 13 or older (16 in the EEA) and provide accurate information. You are responsible for activity under your account and for keeping your credentials secure. Tell us promptly at [email protected] if you suspect unauthorised access.
Household profiles may be added under a Family plan. The account holder is responsible for those profiles, including any minors.
3. Plans, billing and renewal
- The Taste plan is free and has no fixed term.
- Paid plans bill in advance, monthly or annually, and renew automatically until cancelled. We email a reminder before each annual renewal.
- Cancel at any time in Settings → Billing. Access continues to the end of the paid period.
- Annual plans cancelled within 14 days of first purchase are refunded in full. Beyond that we refund unused whole months on annual plans; monthly plans are not pro-rated.
- Prices exclude tax unless stated. We may change prices with 30 days’ notice, effective at your next renewal.
- Grocery costs are not ours. Item prices, substitutions, delivery and service fees are set and charged by the partner store under its own terms.
4. Acceptable use
Do not: reverse engineer or scrape the Service; resell it without a Pro Kitchen agreement; upload content you have no right to; use it to produce content that is unlawful or that endangers people; interfere with its operation or security; or bypass rate limits and access controls.
We may suspend accounts that breach this section. Where practical we warn first; where there is active harm or risk we act immediately.
5. Your content and ours
You keep ownership of the recipes, notes and photos you upload. You grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, reproduce and adapt that content solely to operate the Service for you. That licence ends when you delete the content, except for backups pending expiry.
Recipes you explicitly publish to the community library are licensed additionally to other users under CC BY-NC 4.0. You can unpublish at any time; copies already made by others persist.
The Service itself, our models, our brand and our documentation remain ours.
6. AI output
Meal plans, substitutions, adapted recipes and voice guidance are generated by statistical models. They can be wrong. They may misjudge quantities, timings, allergen risk or technique.
Output is provided for your consideration, not as professional dietary, medical or nutritional advice. Verify anything that matters — particularly allergen content — against the actual packaging in your hand. If you have a medical dietary requirement, consult a qualified professional.
7. Kitchen safety
You remain responsible for your kitchen. Cooking involves heat, sharp tools, raw ingredients and fire risk.
- Never leave a heat source unattended because the app is managing a timeline.
- Appliance control is a convenience, not a safety system. Do not rely on it to prevent overheating, ignition, overflow or spoilage.
- Only connect appliances the manufacturer has certified for remote control, installed and maintained per their instructions.
- Follow food-safety fundamentals — internal temperatures, cross-contamination, cooling and storage — regardless of what the app says.
- Keep working smoke and carbon-monoxide alarms.
8. Third-party services
Grocery retailers, voice assistants and appliance platforms are independent third parties. Their terms and privacy policies govern their services. We are not responsible for their availability, pricing, substitutions, delivery or device behaviour. Third-party names on our site are their owners’ trademarks and do not imply endorsement.
9. Disclaimers
Except where the law says otherwise, the Service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose or non-infringement. We do not warrant that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that output will be accurate. Pro Kitchen customers receive the SLA in their order form instead.
10. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, neither party is liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, revenue or data. Our aggregate liability is capped at the greater of USD 100 or the fees you paid us in the 12 months before the claim.
Nothing here limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited. If you are a consumer, you keep all mandatory statutory rights in your country, and these Terms do not affect them.
11. Suspension and termination
You may close your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate for material breach, prolonged non-payment, or where required by law — with notice and a chance to cure where practical. On termination you may export your data for 30 days, after which we delete it per the Privacy Policy.
12. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, excluding its conflict-of-laws rules, and the parties submit to the courts of San Francisco County. If you are a consumer resident in the EEA or UK, you instead get the mandatory protections and courts of your country of residence.
Before filing, please write to us — most disputes resolve in a week by email. EU consumers may also use the European Commission’s ODR platform.
13. General
These Terms plus the Privacy Policy and any order form are the entire agreement. If a provision is unenforceable the rest survives. Our failure to enforce a right is not a waiver. You may not assign without our consent; we may assign on a merger or sale of assets. We will give 30 days’ notice of material changes to these Terms; continued use afterwards is acceptance.
